About the Cover, "Pink Azalea Spring",
by Jamie Konarski Davidson, 18-year breast cancer survivor
I am a nature photographer. It is only because of breast cancer that I am able to say this. Breast cancer gave me the reason to get the "real" camera I had always wanted. Nature provides the treasures that nurture and heal my soul. Photography is the way for me to capture and share with others the intricate details and miracles of God's creation. I am blessed beyond measure.
When I found this image in my ever-growing collection of close-ups in nature, I knew that it needed to be the cover for this Fourth Edition of the Breast Cancer Resource Directory of North Carolina. Here is why . . .
The bold pink blooms represent the breast cancer journey and those who fight to survive and make a difference for others. The rich green leaves peeking out through the blooms represent growth that comes from life's challenges. The vibrant hues of spring represent the hope and celebration of another season of life. The azaleas themselves are so closely associated with North Carolina that they are a natural choice to represent our beautiful state and all those who call it "home."
As I have said before, I am a kinder, more compassionate and passionate person now than I ever would have been had breast cancer not touched and changed my life. I'm thankful for everything and honored to be a part of making a difference in the lives of those who face and fight breast cancer.
